We now have a date when we will release the fish! The date is May 17, and only 8th grade will be going. For everyone who is going on the trip, don't forget to bring a lunch and wear proper footwear! The trout are now the proper size and are able to be released into the stream. Once we release them, we will clean out the tank an equipment and save it for next year. We will be doing this again next year so be ready for another year of blog posts. When we release the fish we will video it and put it on the blog. Stay tuned for our next blog post which may not be on Thursday!

Yesterday, we gave the trout another full water change due to the high nitrate levels in the tank. The nitrate levels are now back to normal and the hose worked fine. Last time we did a water change, we accidentally broke the piece that tightens the hose adapter to the sink so we had to hold it on ourselves. As you can probably imagine, that worked out horribly. The hose kept on building up with pressure and eventually, the water burst out of the top of the hose so fast, that it made it to the ceiling and got Mr. Brian wet. We ordered a new piece for the hose and it works much better now. We also now have an estimated time of when we will release the fish! It will be some time after May 5th and some time within the month of May. We will tell you as soon as we know the exact date so stay tuned for our next blog post! P.S, our next blog post may not be on Thursday. Today we did a full water change! We took all of the fish out of the tank and put them into a bucket with the bubble makers. Then, We took all of the water out of the tank and turned off all of the machines in the tank.We also cleaned out the filter. When we finished that, we added in neutralizer into the tank and filled it back up with water and put in the fish. They seemed pretty stressed at the end (which is what we expected) so we decided to wait until afternoon to feed them again to let them have some time to calm down. We have started feeding them less because of the increased amount of nitrate we have had but other than that, the fish are fine! Come back next Thursday for our next blog post! We have decided that we are going to stop using our automatic dish feeder due to the over-distribution of food. It always dispensed too much or too little amounts of food and will only be used on weekends now. We are also feeding the fish much more food than last time we blogged. The fish are growing at a very fast rate. Be sure to check out our live stream and come back next Thursday for our next blog post! We now have a working fish live stream! If you would like to visit it, you may click on the button above. We will be live streaming every other day not including weekends. Otherwise, our fish are still growing. We have made a 2 week checklist for our trout and goldfish, and everything is so much more orderly. That being said I will only be blogging on Thursdays. But we now have specific days to clean the tank, clean the filter, and test the water. Come back next Thursday for our next blog post! Our fish will not stop growing! They are about the size of a Swedish fish now and still growing. Our automatic fish feeder is still doing good and we have changed our feeding schedule to different times. About a week ago one of our air bubble makers at the bottom of the tank broke. We got a new bubble maker at the beginning of this week and it works just as good as the old one. Other than the bubble maker, everything is fine. Come back soon for our next blog post! Our fish just keep getting bigger and bigger every day. It is amazing what they looked like after we came back from the break. They must have grown a few centimeters, which is a lot for a fish! Surprisingly, none of them died over the break because of our cool new fish feeder. It fed them 3 times a day for 13 days and the fish had no clue we were gone! I can safely say that is the best investment for the fish tank we have ever made. Other than that, our fish are looking better than ever and they are living longer! Come back soon for our next blog post! A few days ago, we got a new fish feeder. It works great and we can set it for four custom times and it is almost silent. We plan to use this fishfeeder over winter break so that the fish will have a constant supply of food. I am truly suprised at how fast our fish are growing. They are now longer than an inch in lengh and their bodies are starting to get some color. So far, the class has had a great time raising the trout and we look forward for more great times with them. Come back soon for our next blog post! |
